One of the top South African senior amateur golfers, Schalk Naude’s entry has been accepted to participate in the British Seniors Amateur Championship which takes place on the Sunningdale Golf Course in London. Players have been selected from around the world where they will compete from 9-11August 2017 for this prestigious title. Naude is currently 3 times Senior Club Champion at Randpark Club where he is an active member.
This Championship had been on Naude’s radar ever since he turned 55 and was classified a senior. With 1 year away from approaching 60, he decided he wanted to play in his first international tournament and entered online. 144 players are selected for the British Seniors Amateur Championships, however with multiple entries the players are eliminated by handicap. With a handicap of +1, Naude was selected.
The South African Golfers Association gives financial assistance to the top 2 senior players every year on the order of merit and point value. Naude has done incredibly well in all of his tournaments this year throughout South Africa and has been selected to receive financial assistance to participate.
The format of the Championship is all players participate in the first 2 rounds. Only the top 60 players will make the cut and progress to the last round. With players coming from around the world, South Africa can be proud to have a total of 6 players competing for the title.
“I am feeling good about this tournament and I hope I do well. I do not know the conditions or the golf course, however I will play this like any other tournament. I will represent South Africa and Randpark Club proudly.”
