Preparations for the Joburg Open 2018 are well underway at Randpark Golf Club to ensure the courses and facilities are in top condition when the tournament is held between 7 and 10 December.

“The tournament will be played over both the Firethorn and Bushwillow courses, which are very accessible and easy to walk for spectators. We are working hard to ensure a fantastic tournament and we are pleased that the members are benefiting from the investment in the club,” says Francois Swart, general manager of Randpark.

The Joburg Open is the first tri-sanctioned golf tournament on South African soil and is part of the European, Asian and Sunshine Tours.

Current Joburg Open winner, Darren Fichardt, will defend his title against tough competition in a strong field. Louis Oosthuizen, ranked 22 in the world, has already confirmed that he will play. “I am very excited to support the growth of one of the premier tournaments in world golf. As a proud winner on all three Tours, I look forward to playing in Johannesburg again,” he said.

Dean Burmester and Dylan Frittelli, who represented South Africa at the DP World Tour Championship recently and tied for fourth place, along with Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose, have also confirmed their participation. They both have their eye set on the Mauritius Open title before returning to South Africa. “For me., every tournament is the same. I tee it up and try to win and give everything I have,” Burmester says.

Frittelli started the year ranked just outside the top 150 in the world, but has closed off the 2017 European Tour season at 68 on the Official World Golf Ranking, making him a contender to become South Africa’s number-one ranked player soon. “I definitely set high goals this year and achieved a lot of them. Obviously it has been a breakout year. It has been the best one as a professional so far. I just hope to keep the form coming,” he says.

Tickets are on sale through TicketPro at www.ticketpros.co.za and a public ticket office will be available at the gate from Monday, 4 December to Sunday, 10 December. Single tickets will cost R80 per day on 7 and 8 December and R100 per day on 9 and 10 December. Full event tickets for all four days cost R180 per ticket. Pensioners and children under the age of 16 will have free entrance.
