The 2015 Big Easy Tour reached its crescendo at the Tour Championship, where two future stars – Daniel Hammond and Christiaan Bezuidenhout – faced off in a playoff at The Els Club, Copperleaf.
Both had gone 71, 73, 69 in regulation play for 213 aggregates, but Hammond came out victorious after making par on the first extra hole.
He was rewarded with a top-five spot on the final Order of Merit, which meant a Sunshine Tour card for the 2016 season.
“I’m very chuffed with the win,” he said. “The Big Easy Tour is huge for guys like us, who aren’t doing so well on the main tour. It’s a great development programme and enables us to feel like we can compete with the bigger players.”
Bezuidenhout took home the Order of Merit trophy, courtesy of his victories in Swaziland and at Glendower, along with his runner-up finish at the Tour Championship.
“Hopefully I can now get comfortable on the main tour, because I know I can compete there. I have the chance to do that now,” he said.
