We as SAGES were proud to be part of the 2015 Sanlam/CANSA Challenge that took place as Sun City on the 26th and 27th October. SAGES was represented by the National President and the three branch members, invited as guests. The total amount of R3,567,843.00 raised by 780 club in South Africa, Namibia and Kenya, was paid over to CANSA. The contribution of the 29 SAGES branches, was R418,725.00. What an achievement by our SAGES branches!

The Cape Mini Nationals was hosted by the Border branch on 26th and 27th October at East London Country Club. Border did themselves proud in all aspects of the event. We had a bit of rain before the first tee-off, thereafter we had two glorious days with a little wind in the later part of the day.

A field of 84 players, represented by eight branches and three members of the NMC, battled it out on a challenging golf course.

One may say that the 18 fairways and greens of Rossmund are surrounded by desert sand.

The Results WERE:
1 Monday:
Langeberg: Johan Spangenberg and Willie Faul. 53 points.

2 Tuesday:
Kauga: Frank Swart and George Berriman 52 points.
3 Span troefee: Lampies Lambrecht, David Francke, Johan Spangenberg and Willie Faul. 194 points.

The Namibia Interbranch Tournament was hosted by the Coastal Branch during the first week of November 2015. Peet Roets, Vice-President and I, attended this annual event. The weather played along with clear skies and little wind. The event was well organised and enjoyed by the friendly and hospitable Namibians, who have kept abreast of developments in SAGES South Africa since their split from us 30 years ago.

The Rossmund Golf Club, outside Swakopmund, was in excellent condition, but challenging with narrow fairways surrounded by desert sand and numerous Springbok footprints. The four days of golf came to a close with prize giving at the gala event on the Friday evening.

The winning scores is an indication of the condition of the course as well the seriousness to which the game was played.

The individual results were as follow:
A Division: A Abrahams. 159 pts
B Division: C Botha. 151 pts
C Division: P Petersen. 155 pts

Team winners:
Winners: A Abrahams, M Jacobs, B Saunders and E van Wyk. 461 pts
Second place: T Botha, R Boesch, A McLean and J v d Merwe. 447 pts
