A stroke of genius from Sun International and Gary Player

Sun International today launched its new commercial for the 2017 Nedbank Golf Challenge, hosted by Gary Player, and it is a powerful look at what makes “Africa’s Major” one of the game’s greatest tournaments through the eyes of Player himself.

Under the tournament’s new #StrokeOfGenius marketing drive, the commercial is narrated by the Black Knight and features a walk through with Player from the locker-room at the Gary Player Country Club onto the iconic golf course.

As Player passes photographs of some of the greatest golfers in the history of the Nedbank Golf Challenge and then steps onto the fairways of the Gary Player Country Club, he contemplates what it has taken to create the greatest moments in the tournament’s history.

A winner of nine Majors on the regular tour, nine on the senior tour, over 166 tournaments worldwide, the designer of the Gary Player Country Club and who has been involved with the Nedbank Golf Challenge since its inception in 1981, Player has witnessed the greatest shots in the history of this tournament, some of which are showcased in the commercial. And he clearly knows what it takes to hit such shots.

It’s with his status as one of the most globally recognised golfers in the history of the game that Player conveys the message that while every stroke in a golf tournament is important, it is those strokes that turn moments into memories that are the true strokes of genius.
