APRIL and the beginning of May proved to be packed with exciting golf on both the European and PGA Tours with the highlight being George Coetzee winning the inaugural tri-sanctioned Mauritius Open and Rory McIlroy winning the WGC Matchplay in California and cementing his number 1 spot in the world.
Jordan Spieth, the hottest player on the planet following The Masters has looked, understandably, mentally exhausted and needs a break before the rest of the Majors. On the local amateur scene there are strong rumours that all the golfing associations including Men, Ladies, Senior, Junior and Disabled unions are going to form one body which will certainly be an advantage as far as administration and sponsorship are concerned.

In April, Lynn and I were invited to the Graceland Resort in Secunda and we really enjoyed the Gary Player inland Links course in the company of their Golf Director Heinrich Britz. Secunda, thanks to the new N17 highway, is only about an hour’s drive from Johannesburg and the Graceland resort is a great venue for the Joburg Mini Group away trips.

In early May we enjoyed our 27th Promotion at the Champagne Sports Resort in the Drakensberg and thanks to perfect weather and Distell sponsorship a great time was had by all even with the noisy “K” members. Why have we had 27 events at Champagne? Simply because it’s an excellent, well managed resort.
Tee and Sandwedges Euphoria Golf Estate and Hydro Event
Our next event at the beautiful Euphoria Golf Estate & Hydro is from 9 – 11 August, and with Monday being a public holiday, one only has to take off one day. The resort, only two hours from Johannesburg, is really great.
See you on the Tee
