With the Golf Coast’s eleven golf courses conveniently close to one another, in a stretch just over 120km, the KZN South Coast is ideally suited for golfers to enjoy the ultimate golf road trip.
Most will start at Umkomaas and work their way all the way down to the Wild Coast Sun with stops at their favourite courses along the way.
Driving north to south, the Golf Coast consists of Umkomaas Golf Club, Scottburgh Golf Club, Selborne Park Golf Estate, Umdoni Park Golf Club, Port Shepstone Country Club, Harding Country Club (inland excursion), Margate Country Club, Southbroom Golf Club, San Lameer Golf Course, Port Edward Country Club, ending with the Wild Coast Sun Country Club.
The road trip can be done in the space of a weekend or long weekend focusing on favourite courses. If more time is at hand, six days, playing 2 courses a day, or the ultimate one course a day, requiring eleven days and staying over at each golf course on the way to complete the experience.
The golf courses are easily accessible using the coastal road, R102 becoming the R620, and the N2 Port Shepstone highway, which becomes the R61. Both drives are scenic with the coastal road affording ocean views and the highway showcasing the natural beauty of the hinterland with its rolling green hills and rural scenery. Harding is the only golf course not en route down the coastline, but is easily accessible from Port Shepstone and is a great excuse for exploring the beauty of the countryside. Stop at the spectacular Oribi Gorge on your way and don’t miss the Anew Hotel Ingeli Forest & Spa in Harding.
