Eagle Canyon Golf Links turns 10

Past and present captains. From left to right: Judy Katzenellenbogen, Johan Havenga, Paul Jacobs, Mariette Pieterse, Juanita Botha, Brand van der Walt, Gill McNair & Johan Breytenbach. Absent: Sheldene Geddes

Once a disused quarry, then a multi-billion rand residential and golf development with mixed use housing from entry level apartments to multi-million rand mansions, Eagle Canyon has transformed into a jewel in the crown of South Africa’s most successful suburban living environments, and, given its breadth of functionality, can rightly claim to be one of the leading urban living concepts of its kind in the world.

Eagle-Canyon-Links-turns-10It is a place where open spaces outweigh developed areas, where moms and dads can take evening strolls, have a round of golf with the teens or go for a run, newly- weds can take romantic strolls across rolling green landscapes, children can ride their bikes or walk to a friend’s house and revel in Halloween “trick and treating”, whilst dad can even take the boys fly- fishing at one of the many lakes and dams on the estate. No wonder that Eagle Canyon has consistently performed as a top 10 South African suburban investment destination for the last 10 years. It is a place where luxury and entry level student cars live comfortably side by side.

If you wish to simulate a European Links experience, and crave a respite from the sound of balls clattering into trees, and, even if you are planning a trip to the home of golf and wish to get a feel for it, or would simply wish to experience the joy of hitting “Up-The-Middle”, driving across “Sleeper Bay”, minding “The Esses”, negotiating “No Mercy”, avoiding “The Duck Tanks”, skirting “Devils Tooth”, rounding The “Saddle Back”, appreciating the view from “Look-out” and climbing “Kilimanjaro”, to head for “Home”, then come and join us for a round and a beer afterwards, you will be so glad you did.

Naming of HolesNaming of the holes

The Eagle Canyon Golf Links description signals yet another phase of progress, with a vision to create a distinctive Canyon Golf Links experience in the North West suburbs of Johannesburg, to the benefit of all stakeholders namely golfers, residents, investors, business suppliers, the surrounding community, media and the environment, out of what used to be an abandoned quarry.

Links courses are typically more open, have fewer trees, and in their stead incorporate environmentally natural occurring contours, slopes, water, grasses and reeds in an aesthetically pleasing and integrated design. An exercise to re-name the course with a Canyon Links theme, along with its holes and unique distinguishing features has taken place.

With your participation, we have defined the character of our course and our pride in its tradition for years to come.
