SAGES, consisting of 29 branches countrywide, host a National Championship and four Mini National Championships every year. The 39th National Championships were hosted by our Kouga branch during May this year and Lower South Coast, another branch, hosted the Natal Mini Championship on the 3rd and 4th of August, at Margate and Port Shepstone golf courses.

Thank you captains and management teams of both courses, for making their facilities available to SAGES. The courses where in pristine condition. The reparations on two of the holes at the Port Shepstone course, did not hinder the 120 players who enjoyed the two days and resulted in some excellent scores.

The format for the two days was betterball Stableford.

  • The winners of the team trophy on 181 points were Lower South Coast represented by Ewald Ziervogel, Ritchie Lamb, Don Osborn and Jimmy Adamson.
  • The betterball results were Greg Litkie and Rob Mc Arthur with 92 points, followed by Ewald Ziervogel and Jimmy Adamson on 91 points.

West Rand branch will be hosting the Northern Mini at Magaliespark on the 14th and 15th September while the Cape minis hosted by our Border branch will be played at East London on 26th and 27th October. On Invitation from  Sanlam, the President of SAGES  accompanied by the winners of the three divisions raising funds for CANSA, will take part in the Sanlam / CANSA Challenge at Sun City on the 19th and 20th October 2015.  Namibia SAGES Nationals will take place at Rossmund from 2nd to 6th November 2015.

3. CANSA / KANSA:

Most of the branches will be hosting their Sanlam/CANSA days in the second half of the year. I urge each and every branch and member to better their previous contributions for the past two years to CANSA.

Only through hard work and dedication can we achieve these efforts for a worthy course. Branches have sold a special edition of golf guides to boost their contribution to the Cansa funds.

4. WEB SITE / WEB-NUUSBLAD:

The website had been completely re-designed under supervision of our national secretary Elfie Alston and it is a have-to-be-seen-to- believe presentation. He will inform all the branches when the new website is launched. Please note that constrictions have been placed for confidential information such as minutes of meetings which will only be accessible to selected people. All branch newsletters will be posted regularly on the website if they have been received.

5. BRANCH NEWSLETTERS COMPETITION /

TAK NUUSBRIEWE KOMPETISIE:

Branch newsletters will be evaluated by three judges, under supervision of the national president on eight different criteria which includes, branch news, humour, impact  and information. The winning branch for 2015, will be announced during April 2016. All branches are encouraged to regularly submit their newsletters to the national vice president as well as the secretary who will place the same on the website.

I must compliment some of our branches for the vast improvement of the quality of their newsletters since the induction of this initiative resulting them in a pleasure to read.
