Two unique golf courses designed around a natural habitat of indigenous trees and exotic gardens provide the setting for a lifestyle of unparalled luxury and security at the beautiful Mount Edgecombe Country Club. Situated just inland of Umhlanga, in KwaZulu Natal, Mount Edgecombe Country Club has world class facilities to cater for a variety of functions and number of guests. With many years of experience Mount Edgecombe Country Club has become renowned as a popular venue for hosting and facilitating Corporate Golf Days. Top companies nationally have relied on their outstanding service, efficiency and quality of the club and its staff. With two, 18 hole, championship golf courses and a fleet of 90 golf carts the club is capable of hosting fields of up to 240 golfers. The older Course One was upgraded about 20 years ago when the Mount Edgecombe Residential Estate was initially developed. Originally known as the Huletts Country Club the course was designed by Sid Brews in 1936 and upgraded and modernised in 1992 by Hugh Baiocchi. It is one of the few golf courses in the country to meet USGA specifications. Mount Edgecombe Course One is a parkland layout and this extremely attractive golf course has hosted numerous amateur as well as professional tournaments and will therefore test any level of golfer. With four sets of tees the course is playable by golfers of any handicap. There are four special holes – Amen Corner from the 13th to 18th. Holes 14 to 16 are where water hazzards come into play.
Plans for Course Two began in 1994. Daysen, De Villiers and Van der Merwe were commissioned to design the Championship Course directly south of the existing course on Estate 1. The topographical features, undulating hills with isolated indigenous bush, a stream running from east to west, the Pani Dam and two sensitive wetlands were taken into account when the development began. Course 2 is undulating and different from the estate’s Course 1 with indigenous bush in places and its share of imposing water hazards. This course has its own small club house overlooking the Pani Dam where fish eagles can be spotted. The design philosophy adopted by the course architects was a course that is challenging but fair – where a serious golfer could test his skills but an occasional golfer could also enjoy the game.
The driving range is a top class golf practicing facility perfectly situated between the two courses.
A top class Pro Shop is conveniently located next to the clubhouse and carries a wide range of golf equipment and clothing. The exciting new concept of night golf, where the golf course is lit up with LED lights and golfers use glow in the dark balls, is now offered by the club.
The professional and world class facilities at Mount Edgecombe Country Club make it the ideal venue for the perfect golf day, wedding, anniversary, corporate or private function. The club caters for Team Building and non-golfers may enjoy a coaching clinic at the driving range or an afternoon playing bowls or tennis. Our Functions Co-Ordinator and Corporate Golf Co-Ordinator will ensure that your function is professionally and smoothly arranged and all you have to do is enjoy.
