Keeping up with the Joneses in August 2015

Tee and Sandwedges August 2015

Tee and Sandwedges Publishers Note August 2015
I ATTENDED a very interesting Club Management Association of South Africa conference at Bryanston Country Club in Johannesburg at the end of July. Over 120 club managers and invited delegates from all over the country attended and the two-day event was well organised by the new General Manager of CMASA Janyne Marias who brought up a number of points relating to golf clubs and ways to improve the overall club experience to members.

New sports club rates and liquor licensing responsibilities when selling alcohol were two major points of interest while the new CEO of Golf RSA, Grant Hepburn, outlined the way forward for golf and golf clubs nationally. It certainly would seem that with all sectors of golf now pulling together under one umbrella. it will be easier for Golf RSA to negotiate better deals from different sections of Government.

It’s great to see Louis Oosthuizen fit and up to number 13 in the world, and all the SA professionals performing a lot better on the international tours. Women’s amateur golf is being dominated by two players, Ivanna Samu and Carrie Park who had an incredible match in the Sanlam SA Match Play final with Park only winning on the 23rd hole!

After an enjoyable trip to Selborne and Umdoni Park last month, we are now off to our second event at Euphoria where hopefully it might be a bit warmer than Joburg. Over 100 players have already confirmed for the women’s event at the beautiful Champagne Sports Resort in November so get your entries in soon.

See you on the tee.
