Keeping up with the Joneses in March 2014

Tee and Sandwedges March 2014

Tee and Sandwedges Publishers Note March 2014

Being in the golf hard copy media has its negatives (late stories missing deadlines and ads where advertisers change their minds four or five times), and its positives one of which I experienced last week. The Century Development Group took over the Marketing and Sales of the Highland Gate Estate near Dullstroom which was previously designed and marketed by the Ernie Els Group.

With the down turn in the economy and major problems with the road to the estate it remained dormant for a number of years. With Century Developments input and agreement from the Limpopo Government the building of a new tarred road has already commenced. Grant Winter and I were fortunate to be taken by helicopter to the estate and after a pleasant one hour trip tried out the beautiful golf course. Although not many rounds are being played the course and the overall estate is in immaculate condition and the Ernie Els course is certainly a challenge to all levels of golfers.

I managed to watch the professional and top amateur women at Houghton and it was great to see the high standard of play and the Investec Women’s Series is certainly just the boost SA women need to grow the game.

Our Champagne Sports Senior and Women’s events are filling up quickly and my favourite course – The Wild Coast Sun – has already drawn a number of golfers who will again be hosted by Fred Beaver.

See you on the Tee
