THE Tee and Sandwedges Champagne Sports Seniors event was played in beautifully balmy weather and the course, notwithstanding the falling autumn leaves, was in pristine condition. In our mixed section the Grinyers just edged out the De Kocks, while in the men’s section the “Snakers”, Dave and Colyn, demolished the “Jagerbombers”, John and Gerrie. The great thing about having a small field of 32 players is that everyone won a prize and the whole group seemed to enjoy their stay.
Rory McIlroy doesn’t seem to be able to stay out of the news. A massive, multi-million dollar contract with Nike, a loss of form, engagement to tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, wedding invitations going out, and then a complete break-up with her, then winning the BMW European PGA and a hot first round of 63 at The Memorial. What an 18 months for Rory and he certainly has become a golf writer’s dream!
I first met Fred Beaver at the then new Wild Coast Sun and since then there have been a large number of changes at the Estate – more rooms, more restaurants and a new kiddies’ playing area. But one thing remains the same – Fred. If you want to hear the latest “skandaal”, a dirty joke or crack a Castle, Fred is your man. Join us at our mixed in July and meet the legend.
Lynn’s ladies’ event at Champagne in November is filling up fast. Having attended one of these events, but having been barred from attending some of their functions, it’s incredible to see ladies aged from 20 to 80 really letting their hair down and having a ball. Book your spot soon.
The handicap system remains a nightmare with some clubs allowing players to be handicapped off the forward tees. See you on a tee?
