It’s June and while South Africa shivers in the winter cold, Europe and the US are enjoying mostly balmy weather, although Royal County Down looked pretty miserable during the Irish Open. The game’s ‘hot’ players, McIlroy and Spieth, seemed to have cooled down a bit not to mention Tiger’s 85 in the Memorial Tournament.
On the local amateur scene it’s great that Grant Hepburn has been appointed CEO of the new body Golf SA which will incorporate all sectors of the golf market in the country. Not only will this improve communication, it will also make the marketing of the game to potential sponsors a lot easier.
I was fortunate enough to have been invited to the World of Golf to try and win a hole-in-one prize of R1-million. Sponsored by Momentum Life this competition has proved very popular with golfers countrywide and more than 200 players have already qualified for the finals to be held in Cape Town and Johannesburg later this year.
