Hi Allan,

Originally front tees were referred to as senior tees. The main reason was because elderly players could not reach the fairway from the club tees and the senior tees levelled the playing field.

In my experience few players playing from the “senior” tees could reach the greens in less than one over regulation and handicaps were calculated with reference to the normal club rating.

Now we seniors can still play the shorter course but with the shorter rating. Playing a friendly game, one can play off the shorter rating handicap and in competitions on a handicap adjusted by the difference in the two ratings. Even the number of strokes recorded can be different.

I am 85 years of age and all the advantage I had with senior tees and normal club ratings has now disappeared. I believe that seniors should be accommodated.
